Ich bin doch ein wenig zu schusselig um die von Albert begründete Tradition regelmäßig aufrecht zu erhalten aber gelegentlich stoße ich auf ein Bild, das in diese Kategorie passt.

Das Bild ist nicht übel, die Balancefähigkeiten des Radlers sind bewundernswert. Man erinnert sich vage an Marty Feldman.

Und eine solche Bildersammlung hat sicher einen hohen Unterhaltungswert.

Klasse Axel , das Bild wurde mit Sicherheit in Canada aufgenommen,
die Verkehrsdichte nicht so hoch und es wird auch auf Paddler mehr Rücksicht genommen. Schneller ist auch wenn ein
Braunbär aus dem Gebüsch kommen sollte.

Wünsche ein sonniges Wochenende. Klaus


Freitag 14 Uhr, laden mein Canoe auf und gehe zum Rhein, mit dem Rad währe es zu weit.

Beim gehen hast du zwar eine Hand mehr fürs Boot aber wenn das mit dem Rad zu weit ist, wie lange gehst du denn dann?

Hi Jürgen das ist so ein Ausdruck bei uns hier im Badischen natürlich fuhr ich mit dem Auto
und wie es sich gehört wenn man ein Karlsruher Kennzeichen hat.. KA-NU !!.

I think this is a Sawyer Algonquin from Sawyer Canoe Canada, which was
the canoe manufacturing division of Algonquin Outfitters from 1985 -1990.
In 1990 Algonquin Outfitters started the production of Swift canoes...

Axel @ Hab schon eine, aber brauche sie in dem Fall nicht, es ist ein Sawyer Canoe.
War heute auf der KANU in Nürnberg und hab mir ein Canoepaddel geleistet eines wo für´s WW Konzipiert ist.
Gerades Teil in Carbon/Kevlar aus Slowenien sozusagen ein Weihnachtsgeschenk für mich. Und Morgen werde ich es Testen ob es dann
auch unter den Baum darf?

Das wäre auch mal eine spannende Sache: Die Geschichte der einzelnen Canadier-Firmen mit den ganzen Eigentümerwechseln, Namenswechsel und Standortwechseln. Das mit Sawyer/Swift wusste ich überhaupt nicht, MadRiver hat ja offenbar einen Eigentümerwechsel sehr zu Ungunsten der Produktpalette erlebt, der Wechsel bei Bell scheint keine nennenswerten Auswirkungen zu haben, bei Souris und NovaCraft ist alles beim Alten - oder? Oder wie wurde Coleman zu Pelican? Wenn ich dazu komme recherchiere ich mal und starte einen Thread dazu.

When Bill Swift (senior) took hold of Algonquin Outfitters in Canada, they found that many canoeists renting their canoes (Grummans and traditional models) for wilderness trips into the Algonguin area, expressed a need for better paddling (and carrying) canoes, without sacrificing two important characteristics of tripping canoes -- seaworthiness and stability. The result of that feedback was the establishment of Sawyer Canoe Canada to produce designs like the X-17, 222 and Cruiser licensed from Sawyer Canoe in the USA.
While those Sawyer canoes were perfect for many paddlers, others were still looking for different kind of canoes. This led Bill Swift (junior) to the establishment of Algonquin Outfitters second manufacturing division in 1990: the Swift Canoe Company, with the motto "Pursuing perfection... not the competition". Possibly referring to the fact that in contrary to the canoes from Sawyer (and others, like We-no-nah) with much racing ancestry in their designs, the new Swift canoes from designer John Winters were more scientifically designed from a nautical background with seaworthiness/safety and efficiency as the main design principles.

Interesting development. Are Sawyer Canoes still in production? I remember having seen a Solo-Canoe somewhere in the net sometime ago - called "Summersong" or something the like. A very impressing sleek performance-canoe. I also wonder if Sawyer-Paddles is connected to the Sawyer-canoe-company. The paddles at least are still in production. I have a bentshaft of them and like it a lot though I rarely use it these days.

Some canoe companies like Superior http://www.superiorcanoes.com/

still do make some of those obsolete (in my view...) Sawyer designs from David Yost.

Yes, Ralph Sawyer was a marathon canoe racer who started Sawyer Canoes, with David Yost as their primary designer.
When Ralph Sawyer sold out of Sawyer Canoes, he moved west and went into Sawyer Paddles.
